ICPF's New Weapon in the War for Talent

ICPF released a new weapon in the war for talent to help the corrugated industry promote corrugated and career opportunities to students and those outside the corrugated industry. The weapon is a DVD that is packaged in corrugated and can be used by students to better understand the industry and its careers.  Sections of the DVD include the following:
  • “Why Corrugated?” – a fast-paced promotional video targeted to young people and designed to move them to consider the industry's career opportunities.
  • "Tour of a Box Plant” – explains how a box plant operates.  This segment was shown at last year's AICC and FBA meetings.
  • “Tour of a Box Plant”– a longer version of the tour which includes animation to further explain specific processes such as the operation of the Corrugator, etc.
  • “Careers in Corrugated” – in this section, students can click on specific careers and learn about them from employees who are doing the job.  This section covers six careers, including graphic designer, structural designer, sales representative, customer service representative, management, and production.  This section was based on more than 65 employee interviews conducted by ICPF video crews with both integrated and independent box plant employees in various parts of the country.
  • “Perception versus Reality” – a fast-paced video dispelling the misperceptions about corrugated packaging.
  • 20-page Career Guide covering 14 career opportunities with specifics on skills, responsibilities and educational levels required.
The attractive corrugated package protecting and promoting the DVD was designed by Terry Chang, the first place winner in “Chair Affair,” the corrugated design competition for architecture students, sponsored by ICPF in association with American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). Each year, architecture students are challenged to design and build a functional chair using only corrugated and glue.  Terry Chang decided to switch careers from architecture to corrugated structural design as a result of the competition and meeting ICPF leaders.  He sought out ICPF's help in securing an interview and wound up working for one of ICPF's top donors, a CorrAlliance Partner.
