ICPF 2020 Teleconference Promotes Corrugated Careers on 20 University Campuses

Over 100 Michigan State Students and more than 400 additional students from 19 remote campuses participated in
ICPF's February 27, 2020 Teleconference on the Business of Corrugated Packaging & Displays.
On February 27, ICPF conducted its annual Teleconference on The Business of Corrugated Packaging & Displays and the Career Opportunities. Over 500 packaging science, marketing & sales, supply chain management, packaging design/graphic design, business, chemical engineering, and other students and faculty on 20 college campuses participated. This annual event is not a webcast, but a live video conference utilizing professional WKAR TV personnel and TV broadcast equipment at central Michigan’s PBS studios for two-way interactivity.
After their presentation, industry panel speakers, Bryan Hollenbach (Executive Vice President, Green Bay Packaging) and Rich Ford (Regional Manager, Packaging Corporation of America), as well as student moderator Erin Wilson (VA Tech packaging systems & design ’20, and former ICPF, AICC, Pratt Industries and Buckeye Corrugated, Inc. student intern), addressed live questions from students on each of the 20 campuses.
Participating campuses included Appalachian State University, Ball State, Bowling Green State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Dunwoody College of Technology, Indiana State University, Illinois State University, Lewis-Clark State College, Michigan State University, Millersville University, North Carolina A & T University, North Carolina State University, Pittsburg State University, Rutgers University, University of Florida, University of Texas-Arlington, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Virginia Tech and Western Michigan.
During the broadcast ICPF presented a new 4 minute video funded and produced for ICPF by Smurfit Kappa executives, trainees and interns. The video tour of Smurfit Kappa’s Dallas Experience Center was provided to students as a prime example of the latest testing and virtual reality technology found throughout the country among today’s corrugated packaging manufacturers.
The Teleconference's concluded with ICPF's Student Design “Presentation” Competition. Four student teams from the University of Texas Arlington and Cal Poly that earlier placed in AICC's separate 2019 student “design” competition, were tasked to show, tell and sell their entries by explaining the objective, the research conducted, design and other background. All of the four student teams received an ICPF cash award. Each year, those students who do especially well in this competition are encouraged to consider a career in corrugated packaging sales.
In preparation for the live dress rehearsal, the teams that enter ICPF’s annual presentation competition are required to submit a 4 minute practice video. Below are the links to the practice videos provided by last month’s contestants. Practice videos from past years can be accessed on ICPF’s website.
